Giovanna Diora Torrieri
Photographer & Mentor
My name is Giovanna but you can call me Gio! I’m an ambitious and creative photographer who is passionate about capturing the real, raw and intimate moments as they happen. I’m so glad you found me!
I’m a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, where I studied business and photojournalism. These two areas of emphasis have prepared me to offer my clients a professional yet authentic experience encompassing your real, whether that be capturing your relationship, a milestone, or something creatively unique. It also has enabled me to create a mentorship program that helps others build up their own businesses.
My style is bold with soft highlights, essentially true to color but leaning moody with an earthy toned twist.

My philosophy
01.
I capture reality as it unfolds. I want you to remember your session or your day as it actually happened so that when you look back on it years from now it feels authentic.
02.
I capture moments very cinematically. And that means all aspects of it: movement, emotions, almost as if it were a movie.
Here’s a little bit about my creative process. My experience in photojournalism and videography has molded me in two ways:
Learn about my roots:

I snagged this photo when I noticed this incredible rainbow when I was getting back to Irma & Tio Calixto’s house from the beach. I actually did a couples photo session for them shortly after, but the rainbow disappeared before I could get them in front of the camera.

These are houses in Titi Irma’s neighborhood. Each and every one was so unique and all had different pops of color.

Wish I could have included all of them here, but here were 2 of favs. Background includes the palms found in Titi Irma’s backyard.

Tio Calixto relaxes by the pool in the backyard of his house where he and his wife have lived for over 30 years.

Tio Ray’s personalized ring.

Tio Ray's favorite pastime. These photos of him turned out to be extra special as he passed a few weeks after they were taken.

Tio Titin relaxes in his favorite room of his house, his collection room. He has been collecting for over 50 years and has displayed these items for over 2 decades. Even the local schools have visited his house for history tours.

Amongst Tio Titin’s collection room are many photos of friends and family members. This one is extra special as this is my grandma who passed 9 years ago. Background includes the ocean by Salinas.

Titi Carmen harvests mangos from the mango tree in her backyard. Tio Ivan and Titi Rosa hang out on their front porch together.

My passion for storytelling began a young age. And when I say that, I mean elementary school me was running around my backyard using my parent’s laptop camera before I was lucky enough to receive the first camera of my own. Don’t worry, I won’t be using a laptop at your session. But that same yearning to create I had then I have now.

“Gio is an absolute pro behind the camera! Her knowledge of photography and hands-on experience make her an obvious choice for anyone in the market searching for top quality content. Her suggestions about posture and hand placement made me feel like I was in good hands! Our session was fun and I’m beyond impressed with how the pictures turned out. I’ll definitely be reaching out again in the future for all of my content needs.”
